Teaching the Principles of Balance

Beanstalk was a game to teach younger students about balance and the scientific process. I worked with entertainment technologists at Carnegie Mellon University to design game levels that lead players through the discovery of the laws regarding balance (e.g., weight and distance from fulcrum). Non-player characters in the game address common misconceptions and guide players who are struggling. I developed the game mechanic and designed levels while the graphic elements and interactivity were provided by illustrators and programmers from CMU’s Entertainment Technology Center.
