Learn by Playing with Legos
Snapology was a young company using toys and games to teach STEM concepts to children. I created several sets of Lego modules and accompanying instructions that introduced builders to the simple machines (wheels, gears, inclined plane, etc.). The instructions not only show you how to build the models, but have several activities, experiments, and challenges that children can do to explore the topics. There was also a section for helping adults and instructors understand the science behind how the simple machines work (friction, circle circumferences, etc.). While these concepts would be too difficult for the younger children to understand, knowing them would help adults and instructors answer any questions that might come up during the lesson. Snapology holds the copyright for this material. I remain a member of Snapology’s Educational Advisory Board.
