This proof-of-concept project has not been implemented. Staff in biomedical research programs often field complex and sensitive questions from the public. To help them practice communicating clearly and accurately, this AI-enabled tool evaluates how closely their response aligns with an IRB-approved answer and offers feedback based on semantic similarity.

Learning material for a large and complex topic (Genetics) was needed right away. Since a waterfall approach (like ADDIE) would have taken months to analyze, I used an agile-inspired, collaborative approach launching an MVP curriculum in weeks, and refining it based on real-time learner feedback.

Digital learning platforms are essential to a national-level learning program. But how can we leverage the scalability of digital learning platforms if the primary audience does not have all the skills and knowledge to interact in digital spaces efficiently and safely?

This training was designed to shift a researcher's mindset from checking off a bureaucratic task to thinking about rules and policies as strategies and guardrails that protect the integrity of their work and the privacy of research participants.

Recent advances in adaptive learning sciences are transforming a designer's ability to personalize instruction. In this chapter I discuss:
•Which learner characteristics should we adapt to?
•Which loops are effective at adapting to available data?

Can we optimize learning and keep learners engaged while practicing a complex, multi-step skill? Like many complex subjects, Statistics problems are often multi-step and complex; a single mistake can send learners down the wrong path with no way to recover. Without help, learners are left stuck and frustrated.

As part of the interdisciplinary ENGAGE team, I designed and developed games for young learners that use instructional strategies, interactive problem-solving, and scaffolded learning mechanics to teach STEM subjects plus scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills.
