AI-enabled Practice Answering FAQs

Using AI to Practice Answering FAQs with Precision

How to reach learners with low digital literacy skills though a national, scalable, online program to teach digital literacy skills.

Coming Soon

This proof of concept project was not been implemented. It is essential for the staff of a biomedical research program to provide accurate and complete answers to difficult questions from the public. This Ai-enabled tool compares the learner's answer to an IRB-approved answer, scoring it based on semantic similarity of the two answers.

Agile Design for Rapid, High-Impact Curriculum Development

Quickly delivering essential learning material for a complex, technical subjects by continuously iterating based on learner feedback.

Learning material for a large and complex topic (Genetics) was needed right away. Since a waterfall approach (like ADDIE) would have taken months to analyze, I used an agile-inspired, collaborative approach launching an MVP curriculum in weeks, and refining it based on real-time learner feedback.

Solving a Design Dilemma with Microlearning

A Digital Bridge over the Digital Divide

How to reach learners with low digital literacy skills though a national, scalable, online program to teach digital literacy skills.

Coming Soon

Digital learning platforms are essential to a national-level learning program. But how can we leverage the scalability of digital learning platforms if the primary audience does not have all the skills and knowledge to ineract in digital spaces efficiently and safely?

From Red Tape to Real Impact

Can compliance training be more than a task to check off? Can it encourage researchers to reflect on their role in ethical research, not just memorize rules and policies?

This training was designed to shift a researcher's mindset from checking off a bureaucratic task to thinking about rules and policies as strategies and guardrails that protect the integrity of their work and the privacy of research participants.

Personalizing Learning Experiences

Co-author of Chapter 24: Instruction Based on Adaptive Learning Technologies

Recent advances in adaptive learning sciences are transforming a designer's ability to personalize instruction. In this chapter I discuss:
•Which learner charactaristics should we adapt to?
•Which loops are effective at adapting to available data?'

Gamified Learning with Real-Time Personalization

Gamification and personalization transform an arduous subject into engaging and accessible learning experiences.

Can we optimize learning and keep learners engaged while practicing a complex, multi-step skill? Like many complex subjects, Statistics problems are often multi-step and complex; a single mistake can send learners down the wrong path with no way to recover. Without help, learners are left stuck and frustrated.

Designing Games for Learning What’s Hard to Teach

Bridging the learning sciences and game development to help players grasp abstract concepts through inquiry

As part of the interdisciplanary ENAGE team, I designed and developed games for young learners that use instructional strategies, interactive problem-solving, and scaffolded learning mechanics to teach STEM subjects plus scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills.
